DSO Tech Solutions Provides Transformational Growth through DSO Relationships

Two industry leaders join forces to offer strategic collaboration and growth for DSOs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – DSO Tech Solutions, a new division of Cellerant Consulting Group is connecting DSOs with leading dental technology companies to deliver growth for both parties. Cellerant formed this new platform in partnership with The DSO Project, an industry leader in DSO consulting and advisory services.

The program has outstanding benefits for DSOs. It is free for DSOs, and provides insight into a variety of beneficial technologies. By operating on a “hands on proof of concept” model and paced regional implementation, DSOs lower the risk of implementing new technologies through programs carefully managed by Cellerant.

When asked about this new program, Cellerant Founder and CEO, Dr. Lou Shuman explained, “There are so many great technologies in the dental space that previously never had the opportunity to present their solutions to the DSO decision-makers. The program we have developed is from the knowledge gained having a 70 office DSO as a client. This provides the industry a level of comprehensive advisory services that truly benefits DSOs and technology companies alike.”

Dr. Jeromy Dixson, Founder and CEO of The DSO Project further commented, “I’ve been very active in the DSO space for nearly 20 years. During that time, I’ve noticed an increasing gap in terms of what DSOs need to be successful and the technology they’re using to get there. That gap is a real problem for most DSOs. After learning about Cellerant it became clear how to fix the problem.”

Technology companies who wish to participate are carefully vetted based on their ability to benefit DSOs at multiple levels. If selected, they will gain access to dozens of DSOs working with the Cellerant team.

In addition, for more personalized education for the doctors and team members, industry experts can be retained through Cellerant’s team of KOLs to provide the DSO additional onsite training.

Ultradent Adds New Cordless Prophy Handpiece

Interestingly... this is the second post about an Ultradent product in as many days.  However, that's simply because the smart people in South Jordan, Utah have announced several new products.  This one is pretty interesting.  Cordless prophy handpieces are becoming more popular for a couple of reasons.  Number one, they don't have the tug and limitations of range that come with an air hose.  Number two, more and more hygiene is being done in the environment of nursing homes and care centers where access to air compressors is nonexistent.

I got a chance to have some hands-on time with the device yesterday and I liked it.  The unit is light, well balanced, and has plenty of battery life.  My test was to hold it against my fingernail to see if I could stall it, but all I ended up doing was warming up my fingernail!  The other part I was impressed with is that it charges through induction charging which means there are no metal contacts.  The constant disinfection that happens in the dental operatory means that metal contacts can quickly corrode due to the chemicals we use.  Eliminating those metal contacts was a smart idea.

I understand that the unit is retailing for $799.  If you are in the market for a cordless prophy handpiece, give the Ultrapro™ TX a try.  Here is what Ultradent has to say about this new device...

Ultradent Products, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of high-tech dental materials, is announcing the addition of the Ultrapro™ Tx Cordless handpiece to its prestigious Ultrapro™ Tx prophylaxis family. Building on a legacy of providing innovative dental solutions, the Ultrapro ™ Tx Cordless handpiece combines the power and reliability of corded devices with the convenience and freedom of a cordless one.

Designed to deliver comfort and efficiency, the Ultrapro Tx Cordless handpiece takes the strain out of prophy treatment with a lightweight and ergonomic structure, improving experience for both the clinician and patient.

The Ultrapro™ Tx Cordless handpiece combines high performance with extreme mobility and accessibility—featuring a robust output of up to 4,000 RPMs for efficient stain removal, without compromising enamel safety. Its open design is compatible with most disposable prophy angles, including Ultrapro™ Tx disposable prophy angles, like the Ultrapro™ Tx SweepTM DPA.

Further enhancing its operability, the Ultrapro™ Tx Cordless handpiece comes equipped with a Bluetooth foot pedal, enabling the same control as a corded handpiece with no learning curve. Clinicians can also appreciate the handpiece's endurance—a single wireless charge ensures all-day operation.  Ultradent's unwavering commitment to quality is embodied in the 2-year warranty accompanying the Ultrapro™ Tx Cordless handpiece, providing added assurance to dental professionals.

Taking Some Time Away

As with all things in life, sometimes I need a break from blogging.

I'll be relaxing and reloading somewhere between 7-10 days.  So don't panic!  Haha

I will be back sooner as opposed to later.

I want to close with a heartfelt "thank you" to all of you who read this little endeavor of mine.  I have been at this longer than I can honestly recall.  I was thinking recently that when I started this blog, it was on Yahoo... that should be small indication of how long ago THAT was.  Over the years I've made friends and enjoyed comments and discussions.  Back when I was going to tons of dental meetings, I got a chance to meet a lot of you.  Since Covid, my travels have slowed somewhat but I still enjoy getting the word out about products and things in the industry.  If it wasn't for all of you, I wouldn't be doing this, so thank you!  I'm grateful for those of you who read and reach out to me.

NuSmile Partners with Dentalhitec

NuSmile Ltd. announced its partnership with Dentalhitec, a manufacturer of innovative osteocentral anesthesia devices based in Mazières-en-Mauges, France.

Dentalhitec was founded in 1997 by French dental surgeon Dr. Alain Villette to enhance comfort for patients and reduce stress and lost time for practitioners by introducing a revolutionary electronic anesthesia system. Despite its over 25 years of successful growth, Dentalhitec believes that literature reports of ID block failure rates of up to 30 percent make it clear that too many dental practices are still using ineffective anesthesia techniques.

“Dentalhitec is thrilled to partner with NuSmile to promote our pain-free, progressive electronic injection system in North America,“ said Hamad Sargazi, Business Development Manager for Dentalhitec.

The first two lightweight, ergonomically-designed Dentalhitec products sold by NuSmile in the U.S. will be the SleeperOne® and Soan electronic injection pens. Types of anesthesia supported by the SleeperOne and Soan injection pens include osteocentral for children, intraligamentary, intraseptal (subcrestal), infiltration, and ID nerve blocks.

Both products will have their official U.S. launch at NuSmile’s booths (#906 and #907) at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Meeting in Orlando, Florida May 26-28, 2023.

"Pain is a major criterion for a patient’s appraisal of how good their dentist is. The Dentalhitec system brings an innovative new approach to providing osteocentral anesthesia in a safe, painless way to pediatric dental patients. This is truly a game changer in Pediatric Dentistry," said Diane Krueger, Founder and CEO of NuSmile.

Buffalo Dental Manufacturing’s Trap-Eze Plaster Plus™ Can Help Reduce Dentistry’s Contribution to Microplastic Pollution

If we all do a little, together we can do a lot!  Check out the following info from Buffalo on how to decrease dentistry's microplastic polllution.

Buffalo Dental Manufacturing (BDM), a leading dental company with the industry’s widest range of handpieces, lab products, lab equipment and vacuum forming materials and accessories, recently launched Trap-Eze Plaster Plus™ a specially designed, disposable sink trap that can effectively capture plaster, wax, floating materials, polishing compounds, abrasives, pumice,  steel wool and the latest environmental concern - microplastics.

According to the National Geographic web site, “Microplastics have been detected in marine organisms from plankton to whales, in commercial seafood, and even in drinking water. Alarmingly, standard water treatment facilities cannot remove all traces of microplastics. To further complicate matters, microplastics in the ocean can bind with other harmful chemicals before being ingested by marine organisms.”

Dental practices commonly release microplastics into municipal wastewater from dental procedures such as removing and adjusting restorations or by milling and grinding crowns, inlays and onlays. The amount of microplastics generated per procedure is small, but it occurs frequently.

Although it is not known exactly what percentage of global microplastic pollution originates from dental offices and dental labs, it’s possible to reduce that percentage with the Trap-Eze™

PlasterPlus trap.  Recently added to BDG’s  widely popular line of plaster traps, the new, patent-pending product not only captures microplastic particles, but also wax, floating materials, polishing compounds, abrasives, pumice, and steel wool that can cause drain clogs.

The Trap-Eze™ PlasterPlus is made in the USA and includes the following features:

Designed to slow water discharge flow rate and allow sediment to settle out of wastewater.

Fast and easy trap replacement and installation.

Disposable - No permanent traps to clean or messy liners to replace.

For use in dental offices, clinics, and labs.

For more information, or to order the Trap-Eze™ PlasterPlus, visit www.BuffaloDental.com, call 800-828-0203, or send an email to sales@mailBDM.com. Distributor inquiries welcome.

Ultradent Adds JiffyTM Spin Disks to Finishing and Polishing Line

For years I've been a huge fan of Ultradent's Jiffy Polishing system.  They have a wide variety of types and shapes that make polishing things incredibly easy and they work amazingly well.  Now comes a word of a new addition to the Jiffy product line.  Read on for the details:

Ultradent Products, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of high-tech dental materials, is introducing JiffyTM Spin disks, the latest innovative product in its restorative dentistry line-up. This new shaping and finishing disk system offers dental professionals a rapid and efficient solution for high-quality restorations.

Jiffy Spin disks feature precise, ultra-thin disks designed for interproximal finishing and shaping. The system includes aluminum oxide coated disks ranging from coarse to fine for smoothing and finishing, as well as a unique disk exclusive to JiffyTM Spin disks: diamond grit for rapid shaping and gross removal.

Jiffy Spin disks help clinicians achieve esthetic restorations at an affordable price, with efficiency and speed. The extra-coarse diamond grit disk ensures even faster removal, allowing dental professionals to transition seamlessly to finer grits for that perfect finish. Designed for use on both composite and ceramic materials, Jiffy Spin disks maintain the exceptional quality and long-lasting shine synonymous with the Jiffy family of products. The ultra-thin design ensures the disks can fit into any restoration area, making quick work of those challenging interproximal regions.

“The extra-coarse disk is a unique product that I absolutely love having around,” says Dr. Brett Richins, an early adopter of Jiffy Spin disks. “It allows me to make large adjustments to the length or contour of a restoration quickly, predictably, and with only one disk. Before I started using the extra-coarse disk, I would often have to use several disks if I was doing multiple anterior restorations."

Rhondium's New QuickConnect Anatomy Band

For almost 2 decades, I’ve been friends with Simon McDonald, MSc, BDS, DDPH RCS, a dentist who resides in New Zealand. One of the things I love about him is that he is what I like to refer to as a renaissance thinker. McDonald ponders things, mulls them over in his mind, and comes up with unique solutions. In the early 2000s, he noticed that doctors were having trouble creating ideal composite restorations with Tofflemire systems that were designed for use with amalgam.

In 2003, he founded the company Triodent, and in 2005, they introduced the first sectional matrix with V-shaped tines made of nickel titanium. It was easy to place a wedge in between the V-shape of the tines, and the nickel titanium meant it held its shape over hundreds of uses. The V-Ring Sectional Matrix System exploded in popularity and won numerous awards over the next several years. It became so popular that the system was eventually purchased by a large dental manufacturer.

Rather than sit back and enjoy his well-deserved success, McDonald went back to his inventor roots and developed several other products. The cool backstory on this tale is that by the time you read this, his next product will be available for purchase.

McDonald’s newest company is called Rhondium, and the company is now shipping its QuickConnect Anatomy Band. It is a circumferential matrix that is tightened up around the tooth with a special wrench. The wrench is called the QuickConnect Carrier and locks onto the band so it can be carried to the mouth with no risk of dropping the band. Once the band is tightened onto the tooth, the carrier has a release that allows it to be removed from the band. The restorative material is then placed, and the band can be removed by either the carrier or tweezers.

Once tightened, the matrix stays tightened. It will not loosen or unwind as some other systems do. The bands are color-coded for easy identification, have terrific anatomic contours, and are incredibly thin (35 μm). Although they are remarkably thin, the bands are strong and can be easily placed between teeth with snug contacts. I’ve been evaluating the product for about 2 months and have been very impressed with it.
