Archeologists Find Knight with Elongated Skull in Medieval Cemetary

A quick explanation of the image above.  I couldn't use the actual image that is available due to copyright concerns, so the one above is AI generated.  However, when you follow the link below you can see the photos that were taken by the archeological team.

Archeologists were excavating and studying a medieval cemetery in Spain that seemed to hold the bodies of several knights.  What they found in one of the graves amazed them.  It was the body of a knight who, due to the wounds noted on the skeleton, died in battle.  However the thing that was really amazing to them was the genetically distorted skull from the body.

The sutures in the skull fused prematurely causing the skull to distort as the person grew.  They think the knight probably suffered from Crouzon syndrome, but they won't know until genetic testing is done on the skeleton.

The condition is often fatal without surgical intervention, which wasn't available in medieval times, and that makes this a rare find for archeologists.

The article is a short, but interesting read.  Head on over to Live Science to read about it and see the images of the skeleton.  It's pretty fascinating.
