iTivo - You CAN Take it With You

I'm a raving Tivo fan. Not just a fan of the DVR in general, although any DVR is better than none at all, but I'm especially fanatical about my Tivo. It does things other DVRs don't and it has completely changed the way the Flucke's watch TV. Rarely do we watch anything live other than sports. Everything else is time shifted for our convenience. However, the one drawback to DVRs is that you have to be in front of the TV to watch. Now there are some hardware options that will stream from your home to wherever you are, but they can set you back a few dollars and there are still occasional snags such as cabling, etc.

Imagine my delight when I came across the open source program iTivo. It's a Mac program that allows you to access your Tivo with your Mac and download the programs to your computer. Not only that, but it formats them for your preferred device and then drops them into iTunes.

What this means is that I can grab a show I want to see, automatically add it to iTunes, synch my Video iPod, and then watch it wherever I am. How cool is that? The best thing is, the program is 100% free.

I'm downloading 2 shows while I write this post. The software is very intuitive and easy to setup and use. This is highly recommended.
