It seems our pals at the NSA have decided, in addition to checking our emails, to start looking at our social connections as well. Originally the agency could only do this for foreign citizens, but a couple of years ago they changed policy and began the practice on US citizens as well.
According to the New York Times, the agency "has been exploiting its huge collections of data to create sophisticated graphs of some Americans’ social connections that can identify their associates, their locations at certain times, their traveling companions and other personal information, according to newly disclosed documents and interviews with officials."
To me this seems just plain frightening and illegal as well.
