The online mobile economy is pretty amazing. Before the iPhone we didn't really do much gaming on our phones. Oh, a little, but nothing like we see today.
That whole thing was pretty well changed by Angry Birds.
I just read today that the folks at Rovio have announced that their newest creation "Angry Birds Space" is now the fastest selling mobile game in history. Since the release of the Space Epic, Rovio is reporting 50 million downloads in 35 days. The bandwidth to just deliver all of that is scary!
Who would've thought just a few years ago, that a game that is played more on small screen handheld devices more than anywhere else would generate that much volume and that much revenue?
Personally I think this may just be the tip of the proverbial iceberg as far as downloads go. However, I do think that the bread and butter of this will stay with gaming. I just don't see people wanting to sit around and read the news or tinker with spreadsheets as much as they want to get after the pigs in Angry Birds.
My baseball hat is off to the sharp minds at Rovio. Let the games continue!
