Air Techniques Polaris Intraoral Camera

If you don't currently have an intraoral camera, my advice is to get one immediately. Only about 50% of offices have them and I can't understand why that number isn't in the 90% range. Humans are visual creatures and the ability to explain complicated health situations is so much easier with pictures.

Air Techniques has had their Acclaim camera on the market for a while now and it is a good, reliable, and easy to use device. Now they've taken things to the next level with their newest camera called Polaris. I got a chance to see and try it at the Chicago MidWinter and came away impressed. I'm expecting a unit any day now to put through the paces in my facility and I'll report back when I've had some clinical time with it.

The device has lots of features, but the one I'm most impressed with is that the head of the device swivels so that you can take pictures of upper and lower arches with the same fulcrum. It's a great idea and a great example of thinking "outside the box" which I really love doing.

Here is the info from the company website:

Polaris, a new generation of intraoral cameras, combines exceptional image quality and ergonomic excellence.

The camera's patent-pending 330 degree swivel head enables you to capture all angles with ease and the rounded, ergonomic design make Polaris easy to hold and operate. Polaris’ optical glass lens has tremendous depth of field. All objects from 4 mm to 25 mm are automatically in sharp focus. The sharpness and true-to-life soft tissue color make Polaris a valuable diagnostic tool and a fantastic aid to patient presentation. Two models are available to suit your needs. Polaris USB provides power and data transfer in a single computer connection. And, Polaris Universal offers multiple connectivity options including USB 2.0, S-Video, and Composite Video Outputs.
