The end of SPOT

No this isn't about an animal, it's about SPOT watches. At one time Microsoft partnered with some watch companies and created the idea of SPOT (Smart Personal Object Technology). Basically these were big geeky looking LCD watches that got updates wirelessly. You could get weather and other info directly on your wrist.

Unfortunately these things were pretty ugly and they had to be plugged in and recharged frequently (like several times a week). That's not quite the same as a perpetual motion watch. These things were so ugly and bulky, even *I* didn't buy one. MS has now announced they are pulling the plug on the SPOT watch. If you have one, the service will continue, but no new ones are being made. The technology itself will continue with GPS and other devices, but the SPOT watch is dead.
